Its time to discover some beautiful Swiss villages hidden in the Alps. I was lucky enough to be approached by a hiker residing in Switzerland! Here is a guest post from Aurimas, who will share his selection of traditional Swiss villages.

6 Hidden Traditional Swiss Villages

Switzerland indeed has the sleekest cities in the world, and their transport network is well established so you can easily visit different regions within a short period. Swiss Alps, massive frozen lakes, an abundance of hiking trails, tiny traditional villages, and simply a breathtaking nature is what attracts most of the tourists. Swiss villages are slowly becoming a leading part of national tourism where you can enjoy the local cuisine and learn about the local culture and traditions.

Keep reading as we’re going to talk about the most authentic Swiss villages that radiate with a traditional vibe and offer a perfect escape in a surreal nature.

1- Grindelwald

Grindelwald is one of the most popular and oldest tourist destinations of Switzerland, hosting curious visitors from around the world from the 19th century. Massive glaciers, high mountain peaks, never-ending green valleys, and traditional villages surround the area. There are many amazing activities to do in Grindelwald, which include mountain biking, world-class skiing, trekking, and hiking, but it is fox riding that completely stands out.

Don’t forget to check the best Grindelwald hiking trails to plan your adventure on time. The First Flyer is the famous zipline that reaches up to 90km/h while showing you the real beauty of surrounding nature. You can also take your time to explore various hiking trails suitable for any fitness level.

Lake Bachalpsee is a witness to some of the breathtaking views that you can find in the region. You can be sure to get the best photographs and do not forget to explore the village in the evening because you will find some of the most amazing picturesque places on earth. The towns in Grindelwald radiate with a friendly vibe combined with a lot of delicious local specialties, cooked wine, and live music.

2- Wengen

Wengen is a beautiful Swiss village that lies at the foothills of Jungfrau mountains. This little town boasts of warm locals, breathtaking views, easy access, and exemplary culinary culture. You can easily access some of the natural wonders from the village. There are a lot of activities that you can do in Wengen, including skiing, hiking, among others.

Hiking tops the list because you can enjoy hiking through the lush green hills during the springtime as you admire the valley from different viewpoints. Besides, if you’re looking for an extraordinary adventure, you can join in winter sports and experience a new culture and feeling. Wengen is a perfect holiday destination throughout the year. You can never miss to have fun and enjoy various activities while in the region.

3- Guarda

Guarda is a picture-perfect tiny town that is among the most beautiful villages in Switzerland. You can visit the region during the summer and go for a hike in the famous Piz Buin. Besides, there are numerous hikes that you can do around Guarda. while you can do a wide array of activities, you can spend your evening in the villages that have been turned into a wonderland.

Fun activities such as ice rinks, toboggan runs, and cross-country ski routes are available throughout the year to help the adventurous individual to enjoy his time in the area. Guarda is one of the villages in Switzerland that has national importance. You can reach Guarda from Zurich via road or train via St. Moritz.

4- Morcote

If you want to visit Switzerland and enjoy a beautiful village full of rich culture and history, then Morcote is the perfect choice for you. Morcote is home to some of the most notable architectural wonders that you will ever find across the world. A few of these architectural designs are listed as swiss national heritage sites; hence, it is worth visiting the area.

Among some of the must-see places in the area include the ornate church of Sant’Antonio Abate is an ancient church that was built centuries ago. Besides, there is an Egyptian temple with ancient architecture that you can marvel as you watch everything changes from one dimension to another. Morcote is listed as one of the places with the warmest people, and you can find villagers whom you can spend time with and have fun as you embrace their culture and history.

5- Interlaken

Interlaken lies between two turquoise lakes, and it is a perfect place for someone who is craving for a proper adrenaline rush. The area offers a combination of both relaxation and a wide array of adventurous activities. You can spend your time looking at the beautiful scenery as well as enjoy your adventure across the region.

If you want to go on an adventure, you should visit the adventure park which offers water sports, rafting, paragliding, among others. Skiing is a popular sport here, and you can enjoy your stay in Switzerland by looking into great sports and terrain.

6- Andermatt

Centrally located in the alpine world, Andermatt is a quaint village that will keep you visiting Switzerland several times later. Some of the popular activities that you can enjoy in the area include mountain biking, climbing, hiking, and fishing. Besides, you can expect friendly villagers to show you how to fish traditionally and cook fish using the Swiss technique.

Andermatt is known to have the most spectacular views of the Alp mountains, and it is where you can board one of the slowest trains in the world. This train will take you through picturesque villages and stunning panoramas to Zermatt.
