Here are my favorite pictures of Finland! Following the travel blogger’s tradition, I publish a collection of images to make you visit Finland. From Northern lights in Lapland to beautiful bright nights in summer, I have collected 20(+) pictures of Finland. All done by myself, uploaded in high resolution, full screen.
You are going to see all the four seasons, which, I am sure will help you to find the best time to visit Finland. White snowy Lapland, sunsets of the lakes and cities, there is something for everyone. I have a lot of information about Finland, if you find something you like – click on relevant links for more information.
Winter
Many picture Finland as an endless white desert. The truth is – it is mostly related to Lapland. It offers a huge list of activities and if you are from the South, things would look really exotic. So in winter, consider going to Lapland instead of Helsinki.
While you get some beautiful days like this in Helsinki, normally, winter is around 0 degrees (32 F). On photo: ferry to Suomenlinna island in central Helsinki. In the south of Finland, most of the time, the weather is bad and people are usually hiding in their homes. Most of. postcard-like pictures of Finland in winter are taken in the Arctic Circle in Lapland, where snow stays the whole time, from fall to spring. On photo: Kemijärvi. In the north, despite the cold temperatures. people continue with everyday life. On photo: Rovaniemi. They even cycle at very cold temperatures. That’s when locals and guests of Finland gather up for Lapland activities. You can ski or rent a snowmobile to explore the white wilderness. But if you do it the first time, it is cool to take reindeer or husky safari. Look at the tips for visiting Lapland here. Most of the postcard pictures of Finland show northern lights. Finland is one of the best places to see them. Many picture Finland as a home of Santa Claus. In Santa’s village, you can do all the northern activities, meet the Santa and buy some souvenirs.
Spring
In spring you witness, how nature and life in the cities are waking up. As the snow melts, the cafeterias start putting summer terraces and people spend more time outside.
In the spring, the country is waking up. Everyone who missed the warm weather goes to the city. On photo: Helsinki cathedral.Nature and cities are waking up. Summer
In summer, Finland is full of life. To catch every bit of good weather, people gather up at summer cafeterias. It is also the time for open-air festivals and outdoors.
If you want to spend your summer like a Finn – go to a summer cottage at a lake.

On photo: World Village FestivalPeople go to summer cottages, most of them are located on a shore of a lake or sea. The nights are bright, moonlight and sunsets make beautiful reflections in the calm Finnish waters. On photo: Espoo Archipelago. If you are the one, who likes calm rest, there are places in Finland with almost no people. On photo: Aland Islands.Besides regular rental houses, there are minimalist options like this. (post about minimalist Finland)In July, everyone is left for vacation. Some districts are completely emptyIn the late summer, the forests are full of mushrooms and berries.
Autumn
Early autumn is known for beautiful colors and late autumn for horrible weather.
In early fall, things start to get colorful. On photo: Nuuksio parkThis is the last time for outdoors. From October, the weather gets bad and things get colorful only when Christmas decorations are put.
90% of photos here are made with Canon 6D camera, which I think is one of the best options for a begginer travel photographer. It is one of the least-expencive full-frames on the market.
It has outstanding Canon colors and great low-light performance. From disadvantages, I would like to point out relatively low dinamic range (which is still better than begginer cameras).
Nowadays, used Canon 6D sells very cheap (for full-frame category of couse). New generation of full-frame camears start with 1000 Eur.

There are two models of Canon 6D. Mark I released in 2012 and Mark II released in 2017. Key advantages of Mark II: better focusing, tilting screen, more megapixels.
