My pictures of Norway will bring you along the whole coastline, from North to South. In Southern Norway, we will get deeper into the country to see the world-famous fjords.
In my opinion, if you plan a trip to Norway, you should definitely keep enough time to stay in smaller non-touristic places. Unlike most of the travelers, that talk about Oslo and Southern coastline, I will show the less-visited northern and central parts. We will travel from Arctic Tromso all the way down to the fjords of Bergen.
Scroll through and pick the destination you like, you will find links for detailed information.
Tromsø
We start from the North in Tromsø, the largest Norwegian city in the Arctic Circle. Many
Tromsø is known for Northern lights and Midnight sun but besides that, it is large in Arctic exploration and has a large collection of old wooden architecture.

Norway in the Arctic circle.
Norway in the Arctic circle is a charming mix of small wooden houses and powerful nature. On the very North, the trees are tiny, so you can perfectly see every small feature of the landscape.
Establishing regular transportation in the Arctic circle was a big challenge. There is the whole museum dedicated to that in Stockmarknes. Nowadays cruise ships stop daily in all major cities.
I would say, the key places are the Raften Pass and the famous Lofoten Islands. But other than these places, the actual journey is cool. Just random mountains can be as beautiful as well-known.

Bodø
Bodø is slightly above the Arctic cirle and is called “the gateway to the north”. It is known for scenic coastal roads. Along these roads, you would find the world’s largest maelstrom.
Bodø was destroyed during the war and now has predominately modern architecture. It is famous for one more thing – a huge museum of aviation!

Trondheim
Trondheim is a city not to miss if you travel along the Norwegian coastline. It is many things: the first capital of Norway, a place of history and high-tech.
As usual in Norway, you shouldn’t limit yourself to cities. Just across the fjord, you would find beautiful farmland.
I have a post from dinosaur times (previous blog) about Trondheim
Alesund and Geiranger
In the South, the most amazing things are inside the country. I think, one not to miss place is Ålesund. The city itself is located between fjords and has connections to more.
I followed the route: Ålesund, Åndalsnes, Trollshtigen, Geiranger, Ålesund.

Bergen and Troll’s Tongue
They call Bergen: “The gateway to fjords” because of its good connections to Flam, Troll’s tongue and other famous ones. If your target is to only see fjords – Bergen is a perfect base. Out of the long list of natural sites – I have chosen the famous Trolltunga hike.
Bergen itself is probably the most touristic spot in Norway. There is a lot of lovely traditional wooden houses, views from the mountains and famous Norwegian seafood.

And lastly…
Probably the most important take-out for me was the fact, that small unknown towns can be as beautiful and world-famous sites. But never miss an opportunity to make a stop in an unknown place and never be afraid of a long road.
