5 projects to improve your trips, presented at PDP gala 2015 [OLD]

This post came from my older blog and may not meet the current standards

finland (150x149) education (150x150) startup (149x150) technology (150x150) mobile (150x149) travel gear (150x148)

New travel gear rental, application for art exhibitions and more.
Here I review the projects, which can improve your trips. They are done as part of PDP (product development project) in Aalto University. I have passed this course myself and I would call it my best experience in education. Most projects presented on the Gala are sponsored, few are own startups.

Yonder for outdoor trips

For a travel gear geek like me, Yonder was probably the most interesting project presented. It is useful for both, hiking beginners and experienced outdoorsmen.

The aim is to make outdoor trips easier and better. They want to do it by offering guidance and rental service for all hiking gear essentials. The idea is that if you go camping 2-3 times a year, you would not buy yourself any high-quality gear, so why not rent it? For me, who has most pieces of equipment already, it would be interesting to try out something new.
Overall the startup offers:

  • High-quality gear for rent
  • Option to buy gear after trying and exclude rent price
  • Guidance for outdoor trips
  • Selection of the gear for a certain trip
  • Web service gear/trip selection with delivery options

Kryptonite for visiting art galleries

The aim of the team Kryptonite is to bring a better guidance for art exhibitions. They develop a phone app, that can bring information about local galleries, guide you inside and provide detailed info about a certain painting or artist. If NFC tag is placed next to artwork, the user can quickly pick up information with his mobile.
Associations:

  • IMDB for paintings
  • Foursquare for galleries
  • Painting info, that goes from wall to mobile
